U.S. president Donald Trump announces a universal 10% tariff on most imports into the United States, a 20% tariff on goods from the European Union, and a 34% tariff on all imports from China. The tariffs will take effect from April 5. Exceptions include Canada, Cuba, Mexico, North Korea, and Russia. Canada and Mexico are both bordering countries to the U.S. (and already had tariffs placed on them on February) while Cuba, North Korea, and Russia are all under U.S. sanctions with those three countries banned from doing trade with the U.S.
