At least 20 people are killed and 36 others are injured when a passenger bus rolls into a gorge in Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir, India.

An earthquake on a scale of 7.7 is measured off the coast of Sanriku, Japan. A subsequent 80-centimetre (2.6 ft) high tsunami is reported in Kuji, Iwate prefecture. A warning of the risk of potential further earthquakes at 8.0 was issued soon after.

Both pilots are killed when a Cessna 208 Caravan crashes into a hillside in Jashpur district, Chhattisgarh, India. Authorities are working to determine if there were passengers.
